TEAM

RIVER ECOSYSTEMS

RNDr. Libor Závorka, Ph.D.

Libor Závorka works as a researcher at the Austrian Institute WasserCluster Lunz. He is mainly interested in ecology and behaviour of fish and functioning of river ecosystems. Recently, he has been focusing mainly on the influence of dietary micronutrients on brain development and cognitive abilities of salmonids.

doc. RNDr. Bohumír Lojkásek, CSc.

Bohumír Lojkásek is an academic staff member of the Department of Biology and Ecology at the Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava, where he is an associate professor of zoology. His area of expertise is the zoology of ostracods and his scientific specialization is ichthyology. His specialization is population ecology of fish in watercourses. In the framework of the cooperation of the academic department with the commercial sphere, he is focused on the study of the ecological potential of water reservoirs, the concept of migration permeability of watercourses in the Upper Oder sub-basin and the assessment of hydrotechnical structures, especially fish passes and small hydroelectric power plants in the hydrographic network of the Czech Republic.

RNDr. Tomáš Galia, Ph.D.

Tomáš Galia is an assistant professor at the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava. His scientific focus is the field of fluvial geomorphology, in which he mainly deals with the issues of river wood and processes in river channels.

RNDr. Václav Škarpich, Ph.D.

Václav Škarpich is an assistant professor at the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava. His scientific activity is focused mainly on fluvial geomorphology and its application in water management and stream revitalization. He focuses mainly on gravel-bearing streams, which are significantly affected (degraded) by human activities not only in the Czech Republic.

RNDr. Marek Šmejkal, Ph.D.

Marek Šmejkal is an academic employee of the Biological Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences with the job title of researcher. His area of expertise is behavioural ecology of fish. He deals, among other things, with monitoring of fish migration in watercourses using passive telemetry systems. In the framework of the cooperation between the academic department and the commercial sphere, he is focused on the study of the effectiveness of measures supporting the migration permeability of watercourses.

Mgr. Radim Kočvara

Radim Kočvara is a professional biologist with a focus on zoology. He has long been interested in the study of ornithocenoses, breeding success of birds and ecological relationships in the landscape of all vertebrate groups from fish to bats.

Mgr. Lukáš Weber

Lukáš Weber is a PhD student at the Department of Ecology and Environment, Faculty of Science, Palacký University in Olomouc. His scientific focus is in the field of herpetology and he holds a certificate of competence to design experimental projects. He uses passive telemetry (PIT tags) to detect animals in the field and capture-recapture methods (CMR) to determine population sizes. držitelem osvědčení o odborné způsobilosti k navrhování  projektu pokusů. Pro detekci zvířat v terénu používá pasivní telemetrii  (PIT tagy) a pro určení velikostí populací metody zpětného odchytu (CMR).

Mgr. Lukáš Fic

Lukáš Fic studied hydrobiology at Palacký University in Olomouc. He is currently a hydrobiologist/ ichthyologist working in the private sector. The majority of his work consists of surveys (macrozoobenthos, phytobenthos, fish), impact assessment, or proposal of mitigation/compensation measures, in connection with upcoming investment projects (mostly of construction nature) potentially threatening the aquatic environment. It also provides biological supervision on construction sites, or other activities of an ecological/biological nature (securing exemptions, etc.).
